Hey all, New subscriber with a new old square stern from my father in law.
The family thinks it's an Old Town Grand Laker but my friend who is letting me store it in his garage believes it to be a White ( he has one very similar but his serial number is much different.
I do have a serial number , it is 161053 18.
This is what I have for pictures so far. I'm not sure yet if it will be a project or go up for sale. Thanks in advance Dale

Welcome and congratulations, my guess is that you have the Old Town with serial number 161053 16. This is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, square stern model with a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between October, 1953 and October, 1954. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June, 22nd, 1955 to Brownville, Maine. The back side of this record shows that it came back for repairs in November 21st, 1958 and was returned on February 5th, 1959. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate, join, or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. The White serial numbers are much different. Good luck with the decision to fix or sell. The information at https://forums.wcha.org/threads/57/ may help, although it was written for canoes. Boats like this commonly sell for a bit less than similar canoes. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
