Strickland Canoe

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi All

I have recently required a Strickland strip canoe but the brass plate for the flag hole is missing any thoughts as to there I can source one from.

Any pics of the boat and decks, Paul ? How do you know it had a brass plate ? Does it have the floor board(s) ? Are there Strickland plates at the thwarts ? Dave

I once used a brass tank connector to solve a flag socket problem. It will depend on what size you want and how authentic you want to be. I thought it was better than leaving a ragged hole.
Sam
I want it to be as authentic as possible Sam.It currently has a decorative wooden piece attached covering the flag hole.

It has the name plates on the side.If I cannot source an original plate any images and size would be helpful to be able to get one made.

Best I can do tonight. I can take some measurements tomorrow. Does your canoe have a number, under the thwarts, for instance?

Charlie.

I've always thought these mast rings were plumbing fittings from way back when, likely used where pipes passed through walls. I've looked and looked but haven't found a source today, so long ago I had a few turned from solid brass for my needs.

That might be the easiest. I think they were spun brass and quite fragile. Mine has been 'improved' by being filled with lead solder.

Dimensions : ID 1 5/8", OD 2 1/2", height 1/4" (41, 64, 6.5mm).

Peut-être possible par formation en une seule pièce à partir d'un tube...

Which I think means metalspinning on a former is possible. Is the mast ring on mine standard on others?

Fluotournage repoussage est possible, c'est ca?

Its the french words , so find a turner for that and ask if is it possible but he must need the template form , or a turner who can made it from solid brass as say Michael , or the template for the other turner
old curtain bras ring is also a possibility

I am familiar with metal spinning but not sure that would be the method.
Turning from solid brass would be best option but a design.
