Southbound

Hey folks,

I'm tired of the cold and packing up my pop-up camper, couple of Kayaks and a friend - and heading south next week. My general plan is:

2/11 - Down the coast - motel somewhere when we get tired of driving.
2/12-14 at Crooked River State Park in Southern GA, then across to
2/14-16 Ochlockonee SP in Florida Panhandle.
2/16-18 down the gulf side to Manatee Springs SP then
2/18-22 Highland Hammock SP in Sebring, FL
A couple of undetermined days, then up to the central area,
2/25-27 Lake Louisa SP and then my friend flys home, my wife flys in for a few days at...
2/28 - 3/3 a little southwest of Orlando for some family visiting (a KOA - blah!)

My wife flys home on 3/3 and I'm doing a solo act up the gulf coast to the panhandle, Mississippi, New Orleans then up through Tennessee, Kentucky and back to gool old (and hopefully by that time - thawed) New York. Planning to arrive home about 3/15 or so.

My reason for posting? Anyone who wants to visit a campground a share an adult beverage or a simple meal - let me know. I'd love to meet up with fellow WCHA folks. If anyone has camping recommendations for the 2/22-25 timeframe in mid-southern Florida, I'd appreciate recommendations - campground reservations are hard to come by for that time frame.

You are welcome to come camp and paddle at our place if you pass through north AL when you head back North. We are located on the Tallapoosa River east of Birmingham. Info on our place is at www.tallapoosariveroutfitters.com
The site is down for upgrades for a few days, but should be back up soon.

Have a fun and safe trip!

Hi Mike,

Hopefully we'll see you while you're here (check you email for my latest response). I forgot to tell you that River and I will be camping either in Jonathan Dickinson State Park on the Loxahatchee River (a federally-designated Wild and Scenic River) or at the Corbitt Wildlife Management Area soon. Maybe we can overlap. Note that you can camp in wildlife management areas for a nominal cost. All camping is primitive, and since there are no designated campsites, they can't get overbooked!

Thanks Michael - I saw your e-mail. I'll give you a call.

Lex - I may be through that area on the way back (want to hit the Whiskey trail!) Please send me a private message with your contact information so we can communicte off line.
