Hello,

Would someone be so kind to help me research the following serial number 75622? It's an Old Town canoe.

Thanks so much. I truly appreciate your assistance.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 75622 is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, twenty inch mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats and a keel. It was built between December, 1922 and February, 1923. The original exterior paint design was shown on the 1923 catalog cover. See http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-23.gif for an example of this. It shipped on February, 19th, 1923 to Reading, Pennsylvania.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Please attach some pictures if the original paint design is still showing. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much for the quick response. After reviewing your description, it didn't not align with what the history of the canoe was said to be.

After receiving a photo this afternoon, it appears the serial number is likely 175622 followed by 15 a few inches apart.

Would you be so kind as to take a look for that number instead? It is thought to be a 1960s era.

Thanks again!

This description matches the story perfectly. Thank you so much!

Please excuse me if it's inappropriate to ask but might you know the value of this canoe in very good condition?

Thank you, Craig, for directing me to this thread. It's most helpful and gives me some guidance for insurance purposes.
