I would like to find out any information I can on this boat, it needs a full restoration but all the wood is very solid, any help with value would be a big help also. I live about 20 miles from the Old Town canoe company, so that makes this little boat kind of intriguing to me. Thanks.

The Old Town with serial number 144379 is a nine foot long, AA (or top) grade, dinghy model with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between February and May, 1946. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 17th, 1946 to Bangor, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your dinghy. Most of the information about valuing an old canoe at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 will apply to this dinghy. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sale,

Benson
