Old Town Request for Assistance

I just purchased a 17' Old Town Canoe at auction last night. I believe it was manufactured in the early to mid 60's. The serial number is 174557. I would appreciate any information that might be out there about this canoe.

Thanks,

Congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 174557 is a 17 foot long Otca model with narrow two and 3/4 inch planking, mahogany inside gunwales, and a keel. It was built between February and April, 1965. The original exterior paint was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as the design number four. It shipped on June 1st, 1965 to Binghamton, New York. The back side of this record indicates that it was still in Binghamton in 1971 when there was a previous request for a copy of this build record. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
