1909 Old Town # 9277 16

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I've recently purchased a 1909 Old Town referred to by Old Town as a Double ended Boat, serial number 9277. It was purchased new by a family member and kept in the Adirondacks until the mid 1980's where it was partially refurbished and hung in a garage. I'm completeing the job. I also understand that there was a metal badge on the bow. Does anyone know where to find a replacement? I'm also interested in the build record details. Thanks.

The Old Town with serial number 7277 is a 16 foot long, CS grade, double ended boat with Western red cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak trim, a keel, and outside stems. It was built between July, 1908 and July, 1909. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 14th, 1909(?) to New York city. A scanned copy of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

The metal tag on the bow was probably from Macy's. I can provide a high resolution scan from one if you want to get it reproduced. Old Town nameplate decal reproductions from this period are available from http://merchandise.wcha.org/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=399 in the WCHA store. The second image below shows some Old Town metal tags. The bottom one was only used after 1979. The usage dates of the top two are unknown.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Many thanks. Did this year have a decal? If so do you know where it would go?
Thanks for your help. This appears from the picture to be a decal rather than a name plate would you agree?
