Curious about Wooden Canoes
I have resently acquired my fathers Old Town canoe which I think to be a Trapper 15'. Can I have the building history of this canoe? The serial number is 179024 15. Thank you.

Requests like this usually get a faster response in the serial number forum. The Old Town canoe with serial number 179024 is a 15 foot long feather weight model with dacron in place of canvas and a keel. This was built on the same form as the trapper model. It was constructed between September and October, 1967. The original exterior paint color was Old Town Yellow. It shipped on October 10th, 1967 to Seattle, Washington. The back side of the card shows that a Ralph Hammersborg inquired about this canoe on June 12th, 1973 from Seattle. Scan showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
