Old Town Trapper

I have a customer looking for a 15' Old Town Trapper. My question is, are the Trapper, 50 Pound model, and Lightweight all basically the same except maybe the deck in older models??
Thanks!
Dave

50 Pound and Lightweight are the same thing, canvas covered.

Trapper is same design, covered with "reinforced plastics" in place of canvas.

Featherweight is same design, covered with Dacron in place of canvas.

I have one.....Love it, too! In dry dock right now. Waiting for new life. Small enough for me to handle alone, big enough to use solo or tandem.

Thanks Dan,.... So,....they are the same thing, only different.

Yes, the Trapper, Fifty Pound, Lightweight, and Featherweight models were all built on the same forms as Dan mentioned. There is even circumstantial evidence that the 15 foot long Robertson and Charles River models were also built on this same form in the period from 1902 to 1914. It got even more confusing in 1977 when the Lightweight model was dropped from the catalog and the Trapper started being offered with either fiberglass or canvas coverings. The decks were the standard Old Town style except from the 1949 to the 1978 catalogs when the shorter and more simplified style decks were shown. Please reply here if this doesn't answer your question,

Benson
