Morris Painter Question

After stripping my ca. 1913 Morris, the painter is not brass. My first thought is this is a replacement or add on. Thoughts? Thanks!

Most of the ones I have seen are not brass so from my perspective, that is not surprising.

That looks like a Morris painter ring to me, and the ones I've seen have been nickel plated. But they do look like something you could pick up in a hardware store today.
