GREAT RIVERS RUN TOGETHER

Members of the Illinois and Wisconsin chapters of the WCHA recently joined to make one new Chapter -- the “Great Rivers Chapter.” It will serve some 200 members from the two states.
A Board of Directors was established at a founding meeting last fall. Currently, those serving on the first Board of Directors are: Jerry Karbon, Wis., president; Dave Osborn, Ill., vice-president; Gene Ott, Wis., treasurer; Paul Miller, Ill., secretary; Margaret Fisher, Wis., program chair; Jim Okemma, Ill., membership chair; and Cindy Miller, Ill., and one vacant members at large.
All Wisconsin and Illinois members are asked to fill out a Chapter membership form and interest survey and contribute $5 in dues to help defray the cost of mailings and other expenses incurred in communicating with members.
Chapter membership forms will soon be available. In the meantime, members can email Gene Ott at wildseek@compufort.com, or Jim Okemma at jim.canoe@gmail.com or call Jim at 815-943-0739 for membership applications. Completed application forms should be mailed to Gene Ott,
N2562 Hwy N, Ft. Atkinson, Wis, 53538.
Announcements of coming events and other activities will be posted on the WCHA website Forums under Chapter Happenings, as well as distributed by email to Illinois and Wisconsin members who provide their email addresses on the membership form. Those without email addresses will receive the information through regular mail.
Coming Chapter activities include a Restorers Boathouse Symposium in Elburn, Ill., March 31, and the Second Annual Earth Day Paddle, April 22, in Jefferson, Wis. Other events scheduled for later this summer and into the fall include paddling get togethers on the Wisconsin River and Devils Lake, and at locations in Minocqua, Fort Atkinson and Lake Mills, Wis.
“We’re hoping the new Great Rivers Chapter will better serve WCHA members in both states by consolidating leadership and resources and expanding activities,” Karbon says. “We look forward to hearing from you. Please join us at our upcoming events and watch the WCHA Forums, Chapter website and WCHA Journal for notices of upcoming events and other news.”
