Gene Ott Canoeist/Builder
Great Rivers Chapter Member,

South central Wisconsin has seen record rainfall this summer. Our rivers are at or near flood stage. The Fox River Heritage Paddle 2010 has had to reschedule dates for sections of the river due to high water and unsafe conditions. At this time they hope to paddle the section of the river planned for August 14th. This could change. The Great Rivers chapter WILL NOT be paddling as a group as planned on the 14th. If you planned paddling the last section of the Fox River you may still be able to if river conditions are favorable. You can check if the paddle is a go by checking the website below. Our last Great Rivers event for 2010 will be the Jag Lake campout and paddle September 24th through the26th. We hope to see you there.

Aug 14 Fox River Heritage Paddle 2010, Northeastern Wis. Several Wisconsin canoeing organizations have organized this paddle, the last of nine covering the 189 mile length of the Fox River from Portage to Green Bay, part of the primary waterway route that linked the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River during the fur trade era. We’re going along for the ride/paddle. The 8-mile paddle begins at Bomier Park in DePere, and ends at the City Marina near the mouth of the Fox at Green Bay, where the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival will be in progress. For more information about the Fox River Heritage Paddle 2010, and driving directions, see WWW.wisconsinpaddlers.org. Contact Jerry Karbon, 608-831-5552, jkarbon@charter.net.
