Curious about Wooden Canoes
hi,have a 49 yankee, are aluminum bands normal for this? im thinking so soon after the war brass was still in short suppy.also would this be steel fastened? thanks. mike

This sounds a bit late to have been built with galvanized steel fastenings and stem bands but too early for aluminum stem bands. My guess is that the tacks are brass and the stem bands have been replaced. Others with original canoes from that era may be able to offer a more authoritative response.
