Denis found this at a yard sale and thought it would work in paddle-making, if the jaws were padded... but he'd like to know what it's really supposed to be used for... any thoughts?
I expect the friendly folks over at the WoodenBoat Magazine Forum would size that up as a gronicle clamp -- but it's a mean-looking piece of metal, whatever it is, and certainly worth the $5.
It's a gronicle ring compressor. After 1937, gronicles, at least US and Canadian ones, used bronze alloy compression rings instead of mild steel split rings.
