Curious about Wooden Canoes
Does anybody know the difference between a " square end paddling " canoe and a " square stern" canoe?

I am going to at an 18 footer tomorrow and the build sheet refers to the model as a " square end paddling "

Thanks for your help!

The Old Town square end paddling model was listed in their catalogs from 1929 to 1971. This has a small transom for a motor but can also be paddled as the name suggests. Old Town also offered a Square Stern model boat from 1917 to 1964 but this was primarily designed to be used with a motor. The 1948 catalog at https://woodencanoemuseum.org/index.php/manufacturer-catalog/old-town-canoe-company-1948 describes these on pages 14 as well as 18 and 19 respectively. The phrase "square stern" can also be used generically to describe any small boat with a transom which would apply to both of these and many more. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question. Good luck,

Benson
