Peterborough square stern

Welcome, there are no detailed serial number records known to be available for Peterborough canoes. You may be able to identify it further by comparing the dimensions to the ones listed at the first link below. Additional pictures may also help. The catalogs at the second link could also be useful. Mike there are plenty of Canadian canoe maker authorities here, including for Peterborough canoes. If you post the dimensions, beam, depth, rib width and spacing, there will be those who can help you identify this canoe and an approximate age.
Plus more pictures would be appreciated showing the profile from the side and endwise including the decks if you can?

Here are some pics of the Peterborough square stern. Length is 16'3", width at the center is 39", depth at center looks to be 13" while depth at the bow looks to be about 22", depth at the stern is 15" and the square stern is 28" at the gunnels. The motor is a 6 and a half HP four stroke. My guess is it hasn't been run in the last 3 or 4 years.The trailer is in very good shape. The interior looks to be in great condition, other than the seats might not be original. I didn't see any cracked ribs. Not sure about the paint on the exterior but minimal scratches.
I'm trying to help the sister of a friend get a fair price to help with medical bills. Any thoughts or suggestions on value or selling would be appreciated. I'm in Nashville, TN.

Hi Eddy, thanks for the pictures, great looking canoe. You could start by posting it here in the classified section.
As for a price that's a tough one, as often it depends on what interest there is in the canoe, and what they'll pay for it? As this canoe is a square stern, and most likely heavier it will cater to fewer interested buyers. However it is not as available as many other styles of canoes, has a trailer, and motor so a complete package. Unless you can find anything similar to compare it to I think you'll need some help from this group who would have a better idea than me who has never owned one?
As for the model, after comparing it to the list shown on the Wooden Canoe Museum site there are two possible matches for a 16' canvas square stern canoe. First is a Prospector model called the Trout, built between 1941-56, and the second being the Northboy built in the same time era. Either way you have a very nice canoe and I'm sure there is someone out there who'd like to own it, hope you can find them?

Thanks a bunch, Gary. Really appreciate your help. I'm an old whitewater canoer so most of my experience is with Royalex river boats. Part of me wants to buy the boat myself, but I'm not sure I would use it that often and its too special to not have a good home.
