P.F.Q. Canoe

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,

I just purchased a 12' wood and canvas canoe as a first restoration project. The letters P.F.Q are stamped on several ribs. It is very well built boat, but functionality and ruggedness seem to have been the goal of the builder(s) the decks are very simple and thick pine triangles, the stems are very wide and heavy. Does anybody know where it might come from?

Thanks!

Thanks. No positive identification yet, but it seems like an excellent lead. The canoe was purchased in Vermont right by the border with Quebec. Now that the planking is exposed, it seems like a good match with the little I know about Hudson canoes. It is well build, but definitely not a showpiece, few of the planks are over 3' long. I will try and post a few pictures in the near future.

Thanks for taking the time!

Denis
