I just acquired a lovely Old Town in very good condition from a very proud previous owner. The serial number is 92630 followed by 17. I am guessing from the charts you published that it is from around 1926-1929 and is a 17' canoe. Any further information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. By the way, it floats and moves through the water beautifully. Thanks!

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 92630 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, and a keel. It was built between November, 1926 and February, 1927. The original exterior paint color was orange. It was shipped on March 7th, 1927 to Boston, Mass. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have other questions.

Benson,
Thank you so much for the build sheet information. I would love to know the long and winding route this canoe took from Boston to its current home in northern NJ. The previous owner has had it for a very long time so I will have to check back and see where he acquired it. You guys provide a great service to the wooden canoe community and I greatly appreciate what you do.

Regards,
Bryan
