I have a fully restored vintage Old Town 16’ canoe serial #149724. I’d love any information anyone knows about it! I’m also curious about value.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 149724 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, and a keel. It was built between September, 1947 and February, 1948. The original exterior paint color was bright red. It shipped on March, 22nd, 1948 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The back side of the record indicates that there was a previous request for this information from Hatboro, Pennsylvania. Scans showing both sides of this build record are shown below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. More details are available on page five of the 1948 Old Town catalog at the link below. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Any idea of the current value?

The information at the link below has a good summary about how to value a canoe like this and the classifieds at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds have some similar ones for comparison. Good luck,

Benson
