Old Town #175835

The Old Town canoe with serial number 175835 is an 18 foot long, Guide model that was built on the Otca form with a keel. It was built between March, 1966 and January, 1967. The exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on May 3rd, 1967 to Bound Brook, New Jersey. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Wow! Thank you for the quick reply.

Do you (or anyone else) know what the Otca form reference means? Presumably it was built on an Otca form, and perhaps lengthened? It's apparently still located in New Jersey having not traveled far.

You are correct, this is a guide style canoe that was made on the Otca form. The guide style means that the high ends of the Otca are cut down to match the lower shear line profile commonly associated with the guide model. This was typically done when someone wanted an expedition canoe with a higher load carrying capacity. They would occasionally be built extra deep as well. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.
