The Kennebec canoe with serial number 8848 is a 17 foot long Kennebec model shown on pages 352 and 353 of volume one in the Kennebec ledgers. It had spruce rails, oak stems, W. (Western?) cedar planking, 15-M (15 inch maple?) decks and 54-10 (54 inch wide number 10?) canvas. The keel, braces (or thwarts), and seats were M (maple?). It was planked by Day on April 18th, 1914. The canvas covering was added by Roy on May 9th, 1914. Roy applied the first filler coat on May 16th, 1914 and the second one on June 6th. Langolis added the rails on June 6th, 1914. The original color was F. Gray painted by Lancaster on June 13th, 1914. It shipped to Hutchinson on June 12th, 1914. (I realize that these last two dates appear to be out of order but that is what the record shows.)
