ID of older canoe

I have an 18' cedar strip canoe which I would like to identify before I begin restoration. Inside the stem on both ends is stamped GE 48328. Can you help?

I would wager it is a Penn Yan Guide built in 1948. This would be a wood canvas canoe, not a cedar strip...
