Help identifying my canoe

I own an older wooden canoe built by the Kennebec Boat and Canoe Co. of Waterville, Maine. The serial number on the egg shaped copper (?) plate is #
10435. Any info available regarding the model, year built and original construction design and materials used will be most appreciated. Steve

The Kennebec canoe with serial number 10435 is shown on pages 450 and 451 of volume two in the Kennebec ledgers. This was assigned to 17 foot long Kineo Model, type a. It was planked by Hewes on January 7th, 1916. The canvas covering and first filler coat was applied by Roy on January 8th, 1916. It was railed by C. Doulons(?) on June 15th, 1918. The original color was blue and it was painted on June 18th, 1918. It shipped on June 25th, 1918 to N. S. Wonchesla(?).

The scans of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

More information about this and other Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection CDs available from http://www.wcha.org/catalog/ and http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
