The Great Rivers Chapter is taking part in the 2010 Spring River Cleanup. It’s part of Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful Day, and The All-American Cleanup. The 15th Annual Spring River Cleanup takes place April 17, 2010 from 9am-Noon at parks and river-parkways throughout the Greater Milwaukee area. Organizers provide all the garbage bags and gloves, we just need people to help pick up trash & debris. Join us for one of the largest volunteer events in the state and be a part of the biggest cleanup day in Milwaukee. Help us beautify our river areas and ready their adjoining parks for the coming summer! The Great Rivers Chapter will be picking up trash on a section of the Kinnickinnic River from our canoes. There is a good launch area and the river is not too shallow. After we are done you can take part in free food, drink and live music at Gordon Park from 12:30 to 3:30pm. There will be prizes for the strangest items found on the river as well as to the most creative Trash-to-Art Sculpture. We will put in at Barnacle Buds, 1955 S Hilbert Street, Milwaukee at 9am. You can go to http://www.milwaukeeriverkeeper.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=48 for more details and maps or google map Barnacle Buds. Contact Howard Caplan, 414-881-2225 for directions or Barnacle Buds 414-481-9974 if you are like me and can find your way on the northern lakes and river routes but get lost in the big city. Hope to see some of you there. We have done river clean ups in the past and it has been fun.
