I just agreed to purchase an Old Town 20' Guide Special. I do not have the serial #, but it is believed to be built in 1970. Would painter rings have been an option on this boat, and if so, what style? Also, does anyone know what the actual rated carrying capacity of this boat is? Thanks!

Congratulations and yes, painter rings were a $4 option in the 1970 catalog. They would have looked like the ones shown at http://www.ebay.com/itm/280852265638 which are listed for a bit more. The rated carrying capacity was first shown in the 1974 catalog as 1017 pounds for this canoe. It also stated, "Some regulating agencies have established formulas that limit the number of persons and/or total loading capacities of canoes. Old Town believes that a combination of canoeist's experience, type of canoe, and water-weather conditions, rather than arbitrary formulas, is the best guide in such matters." Good luck,
