The Old Town canoe with serial number 184909 is a 16 foot long FG (fiberglass) model with mahogany decks and a yellow hull that weighed 88 pounds. It was built in April, 1970 and shipped on April 24th, 1970 to Fayetteville, New York. A scan showing this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.
It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Awesome, thanks so much, Benson. I really appreciate it. Any thoughts on the value of this one? Its for sale by the second owner who has used it very little.
The information at https://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/57/ has a good summary of how to value a wooden canoe. Most of that information will apply to a fiberglass canoe but the price range is much lower. Similar fiberglass canoes commonly sell on eBay for a few hundred dollars. Good luck,
