Build record request - for an Old Town Canoe - Serial #139945. Thanks, Joe P.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 139945 is an 18 feet long Guide model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, thwarts and seats equipped with a keel. It was built in between May and July 1944. The original exterior color was guide special green It was shipped on July 10, 1944 to North Caribou, Maine.

It was returned for repairs on November 9, 1946; On the back of the build record I cannot make out all of what was done, but the work included a new floor rack, revarnishing, and painting with Old Town’s design No. 4. It was shipped to Auburn, Maine on December 30, 1946.

A scan of both sides of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below. And typical renditionof design No. 4 is also shown

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
