Good morning canoe nuts. I’m embarking on a restoration project of an 18’ Old Town and I am somewhat new to this web site. I’ve enjoyed reading the forum posts, very interesting. I’m wondering if someone could help me with info on the build sheet for her. (123855-18). I believe she’s a Guide model. 1937 ish. I’m recavassing and replacing outside rails. I have an idea of her history but would like to be sure. Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me

The Old Town canoe with serial number 123855 is an 18 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a keel. It was built between December, 1937 and May, 1938. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped in July 16th, 1938 to Interlocken , Michigan. There was a previous phone request for a copy of this build record in September, 1980 from Groose Point Woods, Michigan as shown on the back side of this record. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Thank you for the information Benson. This confirms that my Great uncle Albert Conkey was indeed the original owner of the canoe. I'm looking forward to the project and to see her on the waters again of Green Lake in Interlochen Mi. Intend to join Wcha. and post my progress on the job ahead. I'm going to have questions during the restoration and hope that the members knowledge and experience will be invaluable. the boat has been in storage since 1980 waiting for me to bring her back to life.
