Hey Guys - I know some of you have the book/cd to look up a serial number on the older wooden canoes from Old Towne- I purchased this one a few yrs ago here in Asheville, NC - it was actually hanging in a barn!

It's in good shape but needs new canvas and a few planks repaired but no rot at all - I have stripped the canvas and getting ready to start on it but figured I would get the origination info on it now if possible- anyhow if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! :)

This forum is a tremendous help to me as well- Thanks again

Old Towne Canoe ID: 179260

**I believe he said it was sold to a girls camp down the road from him - which would make sense given the incredible # of summer camps here in Asheville

****I will post some pics later today

Welcome--

Old Town 179260 is a 16 foot Otca model completed from October to December 1967. It has a keel and was originally painted orange. It was shipped to Camp Deerwoode in Brevard, NC, on January 3, 1968.

Sounds about right!

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy
