White Canoe Comapny Stillwater

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I thought I was getting an old town canoe, but it seems I have something a little more vintage. I purchased a white 16ft Stillwater fiberglass canoe off FB marketplace a few years back. The sticker located on the middle of the vessel says "Stillwater by White". It is where most OT canoes say "Old Town". There is a fish jumping out of the water on a sticker near the rear. Otherwise, no other markers other then the serial number stamp. I believe it is actually a model made before Old.Town assimilated the White company in 1984/85. The serial number is X10641410585. I am looking for specs, specifically weight capacity. Any information would be appreciated.

Most of the people who can address this are at our Annual Assembly, which ends today, and folks will need a couple days to drive home & get settled...

The 16 foot Stillwater weighs in around 65 pounds and has a capacity of 1440 pounds. The beam is 36 inches.

That is true of the Old Town manufactured model. This is not that. We tried camping with it and it was sunk down to the black bumper around the top of that canoe. We estimated we weighed about 700-750 lbs. The hieght at the mid of the vessel 10 inches at best from what I measur with a tape.

Those details are from the old town catalog description of the Stillwater......it is possible that your model, made before the acquisition, differs.

That is what I am figuring. Unfortunately that predates the internet, so I am hoping someone here has some info.

The 16' White Stillwater has a 36" beam, 12" depth, weighs 60 lbs and has a capacity of 700 lbs. This is from the 1989 catalog.

That seems about right. Wonder when they changed from the original White specs to the newer higher capacity ones.

My guess is that you have the hull identification number of XTC64141C585 or something similar which would go with serial number 264141. The information at https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf indicates that this was built by the Old Town Canoe company in March, 1985 for the 1985 model year. The description from the 1989 catalog is shown below with the specifications that Michael mentioned. MGC's specifications are similar to page 20 at https://oldtownwatercraft.johnsonou...les/2023-01/old_town_2008_product_guide_0.pdf in the 2008 Old Town catalog which is a different canoe with the same model name.

Old Town purchased White in November, 1984. The scanned records stop around 250,000 in the early 1980s so the record for your canoe is not readily available. Let me know if you have other questions or need anything else. Thanks,

Benson

Thank you! After looking again at the serial number I can confirm it is what you say. I appreciate the information!
