Those $%^$# Otca Tips

Brad Fisher

Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
I'm restoring a 1966 Otca. Its tips were completely gone, and I'm trying to rebuild them. I've never seen the inside of an Otca before. I've seen some good online references for this process such as Mike Elliot's blog post; but I'm not able to figure out the joinery at the tips. I've scarfed in a new stem and new inwale pieces, everything meets, but I am not sure it's right. Love to have the forum's feedback on the rough n ready progress pics below: Good to go? Fix? Start over? LMK

Thanks!

Brad,
The tips and joinery for Old Towns has been described on the forum several times. I’d suggest using the search function to find those posts.
Keywords might be tips, scarfed tip, Old town inwale tips, etc.

Wow, that's a great article and it answered question #1: does it look right? It doesn't. Have to figure out what to do.

Thanks!
