I just purchased an older Stowe canoe and I would like to find some information on what wood was used originally during manufacture. The gunwales, keel, and seats have been replaced before, and I would like to restore them back closer to what it may have looked like originaly. Any information is appreciated. It is the 13 foot model, I assume a Mansfield given the year. Thanks, Bill.

The serial number would indicate that it shipped in October of 1979. There is a Mansfield/Stowe catalog currently listed at http://cgi.ebay.com/_W0QQitemZ310207329650 on eBay which states that "The gunwhales, seat frames, thwart, decks, and keel are of ash." Good luck with your restoration,
