Steel tacks - is my plan crazy?

Here's an update on my canoe. I replaced six ribs to firm up the structure. I got a good look at the condition of the planking at various spots, and decided to replace a lot of it. That took care of an area eight planks wide, approximately between the stems. I also replaced the 34 ribs between stems. I'll replace the sheer planks too so that left a more manageable number of dutchmans. A photo:

I think I'll end up leaving 500-600 steel tacks in place. I pulled all the galvanized nails (rib tips and stem) and replaced them with silicon bronze or stainless. Refinishing the interior will be a lot easier.
