A good sailing day: The wind was strong enough at the 2012 Assembly in Paul Smiths, New York that the paddle-by was cancelled. It was a great time for the sailors though. Photo by Dan Miller. #wcha #wchaorg #canoe #woodencanoeheritageassociation #woodencanoe #stregislake #wchaassembly #adirondacks

TRAVELING IN STYLE: This 16 foot long B. N. Morris from 1919 has 32 inch mahogany decks and other premium features. The torpedo shape recurve was a later style development for Morris and it’s believed that not many of this shape were made. This canoe is all original wood except the combings. It was restored by Gil Cramer at the Wooden Canoe Shop. The owner is Ken Kelly and his red Hawaiian shirt is of 1950s vintage. I have every respect for those who practise this art. I tried, did a course in the UK and Germany but got tied in knots with cross deck axels and the like and feared I would be conversing with the fish often. I enjoy watching now more than participating and remember our time at Paul Smiths when we watched the freestyle event on Church Pond. Great stuff.

Sunset paddle: This is an 18 foot long Old Town Guide model that was built in 1937. Caroline Clark is the new owner shown here paddling it on Lake Martin in Alabama. The restoration was done by Steve Ambrose and included stripping the fiberglass, replacing thirty ribs, the inwales, the outwales, the decks, recanvasing, and then painting. 2021 Assembly Quilt Raffle Ticket

$5.00 each

The quilt was originally intended for the 2020 Assembly then kept aside in the hopes it could be raffled at this year's event. We have decided that since Assembly is virtual this year, the quilt raffle might as well be too!!

This year’s quilt is Woodland Stars. Participants were asked to make one or two quilt squares using quilting cotton with a woodland theme or with an autumnal color. The stars are set among dark brown and tan squares. Measuring 78 inches by 90 inches, this year’s quilt is another beautiful work of art and love by WCHA members.

The draw will take place during the 2021 WCHA Virtual Assembly.

Once purchased, Annie Burke, our executive director, will add your ticket to the draw bucket.

It was a great day out on a superb section of the river Cam along the famous backs. If you ever get the opportunity to paddle it do without hesitation. Punt dodging is essential as are cakes from Fitzbillies

A couple years ago, I had the pleasure to have a float in one of those punts to be dodged, ate cakes at Fitzbillies, had a nice visit with Nick and Alick, and enjoyed more than one pint of really good, hand pulled, cask-conditioned real ale.
