SN search, Please

The Old Town with serial number 25373 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between January and April, 1913. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 26th, 1913 to Waterbury, Conn. The back side of the card shows that it was returned for some repairs in July and August of 1925.

Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the thumbnail images attached below. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. Benson. Thanks for the input. However that totally is not this boat. I called seller, who took another look at SN. It's correctly 125367-17. Would you please see if you have the build sheet info for this one. Supposed to be a 1938 sailing canoe. Seller says he also has all the original paperwork filed somewhere. I pick the boat up this evening. Regards, Jim...

You may need to attach some pictures of the serial numbers to resolve this. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may help. It clearly is not number 125367 since this was assigned to a 14 foot long lapstrake rowboat. My guess is that you might be looking for 125373 since this was a 17 foot long canoe and the sail rig could have been added after it originally left the factory. Both of these records are attached below. Let us know what you find. Thanks,

Benson

Thanks Benson. Hopefully he'll find the paperwork, which he says includes the original receipt. He says it was originally sent to gent in NJ, then sold to current owner's uncle, he thought in 1941. The uncle gave it to him in the 60's when he restored it and he and kids used it for a number of years. Then put in barn. "Unused long enough to sell"... Will keep you advised. Jim...

Benson. You're the greatest....The sn is the one you guessed it would be. The paperwork is still in box in barn, but will expose it's pretty head soon. I'll let you know more when papers are in hand. Not sure what all they'll reveal, but if any "neat info" that you or the Association can use. I'll be glad to share. Regards, Jim...
