Curious about Wooden Canoes
Will someone please advise of available info on this canoe. Appears to be 50 Pounder or one of the other lightweights. I will then take pix and post as free for restoration/salvage with photos and description. Location is Hamilton, MA. Was left in woods in lot next to my house by previous owner of my house. When asked he said he was going to break it up and use for firewood. I asked if I could have it. He said get it off my property and it's yours. It's now in my side lot. Might take a bit longer than usual to get a response... most folks are at our Annual Assembly. Please be patient...

Thanks, Paul, for letting folks know why a reply to a build record request might not be blasted their way quicker-than-lightspeed.

Old Town 174098 is a 15 foot 50 pound model canoe that was completed July-October of 1964. It has a keel, narrow 2 3/4" planking, and was originally Yale blue. It was shipped to Fernald's Marine on June 23, 1965. The scan of your build record record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that anyone reading this will join or renew membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy
