Serial Number Help

New Member
I was wondering if anyone could help me find some information regarding a canoe I have. The serial number is: 201158. Can you tell me the age, value, etc.?
Thanks in advance!
Records exist for very few of the old canoe companies, but if your canoe is an Old Town, this may be the record that goes with it. Be careful to match the details of the record with what you see. Several of the old companies had similar serial number formats, and you don't want to label your canoe a newer Old Town if it's an older Kennebec, for instance.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 201158 is a 14 foot Chipewyan model canoe that was avocado in color. It was shipped to Branford, Connecticut, on May 31, 1974.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See to learn more about the WCHA and to renew.

I'll also attach a picture and description of the canoe from the 1974 Old Town catalog, courtesy "The Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection, 1901- 1993", available on CD from and on the web.

Does this match your canoe?

As to value, I can't answer... you might check eBay and craigslist, etc., for similar canoes and determine what they seem to be going for. Maybe someone else here has an idea and can give you a more helpful answer.

Hi Kathy,
Thank you very much for your reply. That is most definitely my canoe. It was purchased in 1974 in Branford, CT and it is avocado green!
Thank you for sending the attachements as well. This is a great help.
