I bought this canoe from a friend and would like to find out more information on it. It's an Old Town canoe made of Royalex in almost a sage green with white plastic seats. I believe it's about 17 ft long.
Serial # 207664

Thank you all for your help.

Here is a picture of the canoe.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 207664 is shown as 18 feet long, a Chipewyan model with an aluminum insert installed as “extra equipment,” with an original color of avocado. The canoe was built in May of 1975. The reverse side of the build record shows some minor repair work was done before shipping. It was shipped to Eugene, Oregon on June 4, 1975, and sold on June 19, 1975. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

Old Town used the trade name Oltanar for its layup of Royalex.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Thank you so much Greg for the build information. I've been wondering what the weight is since this canoe is so light I can lift it off the roof of my Jeep Cherokee by myself. The white top plastic pieces along the top edge of the canoe and the two top end pieces have a few small cracks so I wonder if there are replacement parts for this canoe.

Old town can often supply repair/replacement parts. A local Old Town dealer may be ab le to help, or you might try to contact Old Town customer service at (800) 343-1555 or feedback@oldtowncanoe.com. Having the year, model, and serial number when you call would be helpful.

Royalex is pretty durable stuff. I have a Mohawk Royalex canoe of about the same vintage as yours, and it has survived with a minimum of maintenance beyond keeping it washed off and keeping it out of the sun when not in use. Maybe once or twice over the years I have used ArmorAll -- don't know how much it may have helped -- doesn't seem to have hurt. For a long time it was my only canoe, but it has been pretty well retired these days, unless I'm expecting to be bouncing off rocks, when I pull it out instead of a wood/canvas canoe.
