S/N Request 107886 14' Sq Back 36" Trans

177in70s

14' Square Backer
Dear Clubmembers,
My father in-law has given me his boyhood boat that has been refurbished in PA. The boat originated in or near New England. I'm fishing for more info. and found the stamped hull number this morning on the top side of the keel near the feet of the front seat passenger. 107886 appears then a 5 inch space, then the number 14.

I've attached a bow picture.

Thank you.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 107886 is a 14 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Square Stern model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks and trim, with a keel. It was built between October and December, 1930. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on February 17, 1931 to Boston, MA. A scan showing this build record is attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Al
