Wooden Canoe Maniac
Some day soon I hope to canvas & mud Rushton Indian (not an IG 'Girl'). In the mean time I've been preparing the top & outer rails. This canoe is a Grade B, so it has rail caps and a non rabbeted outer rail.
The canoe came to me with several nicely labeled bags of hardware and some short scraps of the top & outer rails. From this I'm surmising that the top caps were secured with small copper nails. And it appears that the outer rails were held with 1-1/4" and (perhaps) 1" #5 or #6 wood screws, and it looks like these screws were used at every rib plus a few extra at the ends of the deck.
Does this jibe with what other folks have seen?
