There are no known Penn Yan serial number records available so there isn't much more that anyone here can tell you, unfortunately. However, the lettered prefix is usually a model code and the page at https://woodencanoemuseum.org/index.php/builder-history/penn-yan-boat-company has more details. The GN prefix was used on their Scout models from 1948 to 1960.
