Hello,
I recently bought a small wooden Penn Yan and I'm trying to identify the model. It's stamped SX 53 670 on an interior crossbar. I'm reading that as model code SX, built in 1953, serial number 670.
The boat is about 9 feet long and 4 feet wide, which is shorter than the standard 12-foot Car Topper. The interior ribs, planking, seats and gunwales look original and are varnished. I've attached photos of the stamp and the boat.
I've seen that WX was used for the Light Cartop Boat, but I can't find SX anywhere. My questions:
Some background: the boat came from the family of August W. "Augie" Levin, a boatbuilder who founded Augie's Boat Shop in Halesite, Long Island, after World War II. I'm putting together its history, so any information on the model would be a big help.p
Thank you,
Gina

- What model does "SX" stand for?
- Was it made in a 9-foot length, and for what years?
- Has anyone here seen or owned another SX?
