Messages like this usually get a faster response if they are posted at http://forums.wcha.org/forumdisplay.php?f=3 in the serial number search forum.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 6840 is an 18 foot long, CS grade, XX model with Western red cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, maple decks, maple trim, spruce finish rails, and a spruce keel(?). It also shipped with two slat seat backs, copper air tanks, a pint of dark red paint, and a pint of varnish. It was built between May and July, 1907. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 23rd(?), 1907 to Wareham, Massachusetts.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

The XX model did not get mentioned frequently in the catalogs. It is described as being similar to the power canoe boat in the 1905 catalog as shown in the attached catalog pages below. These pages are from the Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection CD as described at http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm if you want to research this topic further. Can you confirm if the dimensions and description of the power canoe are similar to yours?

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
