Oldtown Dingy

Hi Jim--

Old Town 160244 is a 12 foot AA grade (top grade-- usually mahogany trimmed) sportboat model, finished June to August of 1953. It has half ribs and a keel and was originally painted dark green. Initially, it was shipped to Marine Sporting Center in Providence, RI on September 28, 1953 but was damaged, and was returned to the Old Town factory on 10-29-53.

The reverse side of the scan details the 14 hours of work needed to repair the boat. It was then shipped to a buyer in Glenwood, MN, 7-30-54.

The scans of these records are attached below-- click on them to get larger images. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Interesting story!

Kathy

Dan, I sent your lead to the fellow who wants a 20' Guide and he wasn't interested. Sorry I didn't respond, thanks for the lead anyway. Jim
