Curious about Wooden Canoes
I have a dingy that my uncle had the numbers are-- 162002(hope i can some imformation) now that I'm retired i should restore it i guess.I just finished a E-Type that i had stored for the 35 yrs of the 37 yrs i had it. I just know wood is so much better then metal to work on. On the way to maine this summer i'm picking up a oldtown canoe that's cheap and looks like it just needs to be recanvased.-- famous last words-- never know. My fondest memorys are when i was small my Father hauling me all around the Allagash region in a 20' guide canoe. It was different there then and the fish were bigger--Steve

Hello Steve,
The boat with #162002 was a 9' Dingy in AA grade with half ribs, a keel and outside stems. It was painted white and shipped to Lakeport, NH in September of 1954. A copy of the build record is attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA, http://www.wcha.org/wcha_video.php to watch a 10 minute video about WCHA and our programs and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your dingy. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
