Old Town serial 1160

Curious about Wooden Canoes
undefinedHave an Old Town Serial 1160 17. I see #1604 was made in 1905 and that records may be scetchy before then. Any guess as to when this one might have been made?

There is very little known about serial numbers that were issued before Old Town started keeping records in the current collection of cards. We don't even know what year they started numbering their canoes. It can also be very difficult to determine if one of these low serial numbers is an Old Town without an original name plate on the deck. Many other builders used similar construction techniques and serial numbers. Do you have any pictures that you can share here?

Being a novice at this, I guess I assumed by the serial number format that it was Old Town. First pic is Serial on bow inside keel. Next is bow,,Bow seat,,looking towards stern,,Bow,,inner construction,, and finally bow. It was repainted in the 60's. The interior is all origional finish. Seats were never recained as far as I know. My father bought it in 1927 for $25

I don't know, but it looks more like a Charles River area canoe to me. See for example the two attached catalog pages from the 1906 Waltham catalog...

Cheers,
Dan

I was gonna say I found your problem- that there ain't no Old Town! Robertson and Waltham are good guesses.
