Old Town OTCA SN 147363 16

The Old Town canoe with serial number 147363 is shown as a12 foot Sportboat, built in 1946-47. Check your serial number again, at both ends -- perhaps post photos of both serial numbers.

I sent an email to the guy requesting it.
What he gave me was: 747363. 16 I guessed the first 7 was a 1.

Something is amiss.

Our build record scans stop at 210xxx, around 1975. The serial number 747363 is not from an Old Town built in the 1950's.

Trying some other variations -- 147368 is a 16 foot Yankee. 147863 and 147868 are not Otcas, and are not 16 feet long.

Again, pictures of both stem ends with the numbers might help, and indeed, pictures of the canoe itself would help to confirm that it is an Old Town and an Otca. A few of the tricks described at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may help if some of the digits are not clear. Good luck.

Old Paddler - the photo you posted looks like a pre-1950 (or so) 16' OT Otca. Something's not right with the serial number you were given.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 141364 is shown as 16 feet long, CS (common sense or standard) grade, an Otca model, with open spruce gunwales and ash decks, and equipped with a keel. It was built between December 1944 and July 1945. The original exterior paint was indicated as dark green with a guide special green bottom. It was shipped to Glens Falls, New York on August 30, 1945. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail images attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you.
I will pass the information on.
I'm not interested in the boat, since I'm already working on my bucket list canoe, but hopefully this boat will find a good home.
