Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi folks, and thanks in advance for all the work that goes into this.

Looks like I've purchased another canoe, an 18' Old Town Guide, serial # 128382 18. It's an excellent original boat, I'll be the third owner. I hope to take delivery around the end of the month. Any build sheet info is appreciated!

Thanks, Paul

The Old Town canoe with serial number 128382 is an 18 foot long, GS (guide special or utility) grade Guide model with open spruce gunwales, birch seats, decks and thwarts, and equipped with a keel. It was built between November 1939 and March 1940. The original exterior paint color was Guide Special Green . It was shipped to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 18, 1940. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks Greg, that matches exactly the provenance I have. It's appreciated.

Thanks Macky, I'm pretty excited about it, I'll post more when I receive the canoe. It's in Maine, I'm in Virginia.
