Hello, I was hoping to find a build sheet for a Old Town 20ft Guide Serial# 182085. I just picked this canoe up in Mapleton Maine. Original owner was suppose let a game warden and Maine guide.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 182085 is a 20 foot long Guide's model with half ribs and no keel. It was built between December, 1968 and May, 1969. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 15th, 1969 to Presque Isle, Maine. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

I am looking to identify what I think is an Old Town Canoe (16 3408). It's in the process of being restored. Thanks for any answers.

There are no build records for the Old Town or Carleton canoes with serial number 3408. Kennebec put this number on a 16 foot canoe in 1910. Does your canoe have a heart shaped deck, a curved bow carry thwart, or rails that extend past the stem? Are there any signs of nail holes or a decal on the bow deck? Pictures would be great. Thanks,

Benson

Yes on the heart shaped deck, not sure about the carry thwart or rails that extend beyond the stem. Will try to get pics for the person who currently has the boat and is working on it. Stay tuned.

At first blush it looks like a Nutting deck style to me. A closer photo would help. Nutting had a canoe shop/livery on the Charles River. Postcards show up regularly on Ebay of his place.
