This boat is in Maine, owner has provided me with this much of the serial number:

44001

The Old Town canoe with serial number 44001 is an 16 foot long, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with closed spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash trim, a keel, floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between July, 1916 and April, 1917. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on April 12th, 1917 to Bridgeport, Conn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. The Research & History section is more for trading information about builders and models, construction techniques etc. Not a big deal - just thought I'd mention it for the benefit of everyone.

44001 is assigned to a 16 HW model in CS grade. It had spruce gunwales; ash seats, decks and thwarts; a keel, floor racks and sponsons. It was painted dark green and shipped to Bridgeport, CT in April of 1917.
